SAMSHSA Recruiting Peer Reviewers for Funding Opportunities

Dear Colleague,

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA) Division of Grant Review is recruiting new Peer Reviewers for our funding opportunities in mental health services and substance abuse prevention and treatment. Our Peer Reviewers evaluate grant applications through a fair, equitable and objective review process to provide SAMHSA and grant applicants with accurate feedback.

SAMHSA is interested in recruiting Peer Reviewers with academic qualifications and professional work experience in the following fields:

  • Mental health services, with a knowledge of community-based systems of care and services for adults with serious mental illnesses and children with serious emotional disturbances
  • Substance abuse prevention, with expertise or experience working with activities that discourage substance use disorder as well as behaviors that increase the risk of substance use disorder
  • Substance abuse treatment, with expertise in evidence-based, effective substance use disorder treatment services, programs, and activities

The peak grant review season usually occurs from January through July each year. All reviews will be coordinated via email, phone, and online systems; therefore, travel is not required.  New reviewers will be required to participate in an online reviewer training before participating in the review process.

Attached is a flyer with general information about the SAMHSA review process.  For further information about Peer Reviewer requirements, time commitments, and the application process, please visit our website at https://www.samhsa.gov/grants/review/grant-review-opportunities.

We would greatly appreciate your help with distributing this flyer to your professional members so that they can participate in SAMHSA’s upcoming grant application review process.

For inquiries, please contact us at Reviewer@samhsa.hhs.gov.

Sincerely,

Division of Grant Review
