ASAM Provides Comments to HHS on Insurance Coverage of Preventive Services

In response to a request for comments from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) regarding insurance coverage of preventive services provided over the counter (OTC), ASAM supported removing barriers to smoking cessation products to provide more people better access to these tools. In addition, ASAM encouraged HHS to consider the important role of clinicians in screening for and treating tobacco use disorder (TUD), and specifically urged that efforts to expand access to OTC products should not subvert the critical patient-clinician relationship.
